Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard reportedly signed domestic partnership ordinance 213 today. This poorly written and conceived ordinance spends city tax dollars to appease Leftist homosexual activists at a time when the City of Indianapolis will likely be $30-$50 million short at the end of the year.
As Veritas Rex has discussed here and here , aside from the fiscal irresponsibility, this policy marks a sharp shift from a preference for marriage towards an acceptance of homosexual and heterosexual cohabitation as the moral equivalent to marriage. Proponents of this ordinance admit that very few homosexual couples will take advantage of this new legal entity. The actual benefits do not really matter to them. It's about changing culture and public perception. As much as the Left attempts to portray conservatives as forcing our morals on them, that is exactly what they are doing to the people of Indianapolis with this new ordinance.
Though all 15 Democrats and a handfull of Republicans supported this problematic ordinance in the Indianapolis City-County Council, the real blame has to be laid at the feet of Mayor Ballard. This is not his first introduction to the "GLBT" agenda. This is merely the most recent in a long line of abuses against conservatives. At this time it would be accurate to call Mayor Ballard a "gay rights" politician. As a matter of fact, he now has a record, Indiana Equality, Human Rights Campaign and other militant homosexual actist groups should endorse.
Here are just a few of the accomplishments of Indianapolis' "LBGT" promoting Mayor:
2012 - Signs domestic partnership ordinance 213
2011 - Out of nowhere, Mayor Ballard decides to inject himself into the debate in the Indiana General Assembly over same-sex marriage by opposing The Marriage Amendment.
2010 - The Mayor's office attacked cookie store owners of "Just Cookies" because they refused to support a homosexual activist group's "Coming Out Day".
2007-Present - The Mayor's office has been a supporter of the Pride Parade and Festival put on by homosexual activists. His office has a booth at the festival each year, his administration has allowed firefighters and police to march in the parade in uniform with city vehicles. The police and fire departments under the Mayor also have booths at the parade to recruit new police officers and firefighters. "Indy Pride" is an embarrassment to the city.
Here are a few pictures and videos from this event. Perhaps the Mayor would want to use these on campaign materials next election??
